Mark Hamill Meets Kevin Conroy One Last Time in MultiVersus: A Legendary Voice-Acting Duo’s Final Act
May-08-2024
In MultiVersus, Mark Hamill brings the Joker to life, working in tandem with Kevin Conroy's portrayal of Batman. Despite Mark Hamill announcing his departure from the role of the Joker, audiences have the opportunity to witness one more novel performance by him in the eagerly awaited Warner Bros. crossover fighting game MultiVersus. Surprisingly, Hamill’s initial appearance as the Joker in MultiVersus was revealed in the character's announcement trailer for the game.
Following the 2022 passing of Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman, Hamill stepped away from his role as the Joker. Having started their iconic roles in the early '90s through Batman: The Animated Series, both Hamill and Conroy were celebrated as the quintessential voices of Joker and Batman across three decades. The final act of Batman by Conroy might be hard to pinpoint, as he lends his voice to Batman in MultiVersus, also in Suicide Squad: The game, and in the forthcoming animated feature Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three, all after his passing.
Since MultiVersus featured Conroy’s Batman in its beta version in 2022, it’s plausible that Hamill recorded his Joker lines before Conroy’s demise, despite Hamill's reiterated retirement plans. These iconic voice actors, having lent their voices to Joker and Batman in animated series, films, games, and more, offer fans a delightful yet somber adieu, marking the end of an era for this legendary voice acting partnership, which has been adored for generations.
With its grand launch slated for May 28, MultiVersus is set to excite fans once more. Indeed, Mark Hamill is celebrated as one of the greatest Joker portrayals in history, across all forms of media.
