Retro Racing Returns: The Unveiling of New Star GP

Riding the wave of nostalgia, upcoming titles like Circuit Superstars and Exo Rally Championship are transporting gamers back to the golden days of arcade racing. Soon, there will be another game joining the ranks, aptly named New Star GP, which promises to be a melodious blend of yesteryear's style with today's technology.

With the first glance at New Star GP, you are instantly transported back to the era of iconic racers like Prost, Senna, and Schumacher. The colorful, bright, faux-retro graphics invoke memories of classic old-school games such as Papyrus' Indianapolis 500. However, don't let the retro aesthetics fool you; the game is far from being a simulation. Its less-than-realistic, Days of Thunder-style maneuvers make it clear that the emphasis here is purely on fun and nostalgia.

But New Star GP does not stop at just the visual callbacks. The game will feature cars and tracks that were celebrated in the 80s and 90s. Upon its early release, the game will come with a career mode and a "championship mode," offering a total of 56 individual races from places like Brisbane, Quebec, and Tokyo. The single-player career mode will focus on the 1980s and 90s, with plans to introduce cars, tracks, and configurations from subsequent decades during the course of early access.

Apart from its retro charm, the game promises depth in gameplay as well. The developer, New Star, has a history of creating complex games like the soccer sim New Star Manager. They promise that while the game can be played casually, serious racers who want to master the game will have to consider elements like tyre choice and wear, component reliability, slipstreaming opponents, fuel load, and pit strategy. With the potential for component failures, dynamic weather changes, and tyre blowouts, stand by for some exciting racing action.

The gaming scene has seen plenty of changes over the years, and while my interest in racing games has somewhat waned, I am thrilled by the prospects of this new title. New Star GP might be the game that brings back the exhilarating and carefree feelings that come with arcade racing. Although there isn't an exact release date yet, we can expect the game to be out on Steam in a few weeks.
