Mortal Kombat 1 Set to Receive Smoke and Rain as Playable Characters
Jul-07-2023
Exciting news for Mortal Kombat fans! Warner Bros Games and Netherrealm Studios have recently confirmed Smoke and Rain as playable characters in the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 1. This news was revealed in a newly-released trailer that seemed to include campaign cinematics, focusing primarily on Scorpion and Sub-Zero's struggle to establish the Lin Kuei. These two new characters will add more variety and strategy to the game, making it even more immersive and thrilling for players.
But that's not all. The game developers also confirmed that Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion would be featured as Kameo fighters. These characters will serve as in-game assists, giving players a significant edge during combat. As explained by Ed Boon, the series' head, Kameo fighters, are considered 'non-canon', meaning that players can use Scorpion as their main fighter and another version of Scorpion as a Kameo.
Originally announced back in May, Mortal Kombat 1 is slated for release on September 19. The game promises to usher in a new era for the Mortal Kombat Universe, which has been reimagined by Fire God Liu Kang. The game features reimagined versions of iconic characters, offering a fresh take on these beloved fighters. NetherRealm Studios is working on the current-gen console versions, while QLOC and Shiver Entertainment / Saber Interactive respectively handle the PC and Nintendo Switch versions.
Players who purchase the Premium Edition or Kollector's Edition of Mortal Kombat 1 will enjoy early access to the game beginning on September 14. This early access period also includes a Kombat Pack, offering early access to six new playable characters. Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC offering was seemingly leaked via an Amazon Italy product listing earlier this year. According to the listing, the DLC fighters will include Quan Chi, Omni Man, Ermac, Takeda, Peacemaker, and Homelander.
In conclusion, all Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders will include Shang Tsung as an in-game playable character. Plus, players who pre-order for PS5 or Xbox Series X/S will get access to a Mortal Kombat 1 beta in August. With the addition of Smoke and Rain, along with new Kameo fighters, Mortal Kombat 1 is shaping up to be an exciting new entry in the beloved franchise.
